I bought an Audi TT Roadster when I moved to LA after living in NY for two years. My Audi TT roadster was a 2001 and had 12,000 miles on it from one previous owner. The audi was in great condition and I have absolutely loved the car and have no regrets. I put on over 65,000 miles over my four years and had very little troubles with the car. So here's a list of the goods and bads of the 2001 Audi TT Roadster:
The Good:
1. The audi is a blast to drive. I have the 1.8 liter turbo and the little turbo is amazing. Don't believe everyone who says it is too slow.
2. The airflow in the cockpit is perfectly engineered. It can be 40 degrees outside and with just a sweater you will be perfectly warm with the seater on and the back wind reflector window up. I love it at night.
3. The rear window is made of glass vs plastic like on many convertibles.
4. The trunkspace of the 1.8 liter audi tt is fairly big, big enough to fit golf clubs, etc.
5. The instrument panel on the audi tt is the most gorgeous instrument panel of any car. Its absolutely classic.
6. The air circulation system is well made and has just enough power to keep both pasengers warm or cool.
7. The windsheild is very upright making it nice when the top is down since the driver will have lots of visibility over the windsheild.
Now some of the bad:
1. I had several rattle issues in the doors that required the dealers to constantly adjust the doors to get the squeeks out. They finally did.
2. THe convertible top can get out of alignment every so often and require a $200 fix to get it aligned so the little light will go off.
3. The instrument panel, or instrument cluster as they call it, dies after 60,000 or so miles and requires a $700 fix to replace.
